'Kesari' box-office collection Day 2: The Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra starrer grosses Rs 17 crore on Friday
Akshay Kumar seems to have a Midas touch. After delivering back-to-back hits with R Balki's ‘PadMan’, Reema Kagti's ‘Gold’ and Shankar's ‘2.0’ last year, he opened 2019 with a bang as well. After making its entry at the box-office with a record opening of Rs 21 crore on its first day, filmmaker Anurag Singh’s ‘ Kesari’ starring
Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra keeps up with its high expectations on its second day too. According to reports in the BoxofficeIndia.com, the patriotic period drama collected Rs 17 crore on its second day of release on Saturday, taking its total collection to Rs 38 crore.
Akshay plays the character of Havildar Ishar Singh, who led the 36th Sikh Regiment of the British Indian Army in the Battle Of Saragarhi, which was fought in 1897. The film apparently tells the incredible story of 21 Sikh soldiers fighting valiantly against 10,000 Afghan troops.
Like many others, Akshay Kumar had said that he too knew very little about the brave fight. Speaking about it, he had reportedly said that when Kesari will release, the world will know about it. If you will Google the five bravest battle ever fought, it is the Battle of Saragarhi on the second or the third spot. Despite this, it has no mention in our history books. He also added that he hopes that it gets included in the school syllabus and students get to know about the story of valour and courage of 21 Sikhs who had the chance to flee, but they stood strong and fought for their nation’s pride and honour.
KESARI is based on the true story of one of the bravest battles that India ever fought – the Battle of Saragarhi. The year is 1897 and the British Empire having conquered most of India, is now trying to infiltrate Afghanistan. Fort Saragarhi, in the NWFP (North Western Frontier Province) is a small communication post used to relay messages between two major military forts - Gullistan and Lockhardt. To be posted at Saragarhi is no matter of pride for the newly formed Sikh regiment of the British Indian Army. Marked in color KESARI (Saffron), the Sikhs symbolize valor and pride and to die doing one's duty
